For over two and a half millennia, philosophy has formed the foundation of Western thought. It plays a vital role in shaping our perception of reality and our relationship with the world around us.
Philosophy equips us with critical methods to analyze the underlying assumptions across all fields of study and practical endeavors.
Year 1- Your studies will include Greats: From Plato to the Enlightenment, Morality and Value, and Logic 1. These foundational courses explore major philosophical concepts throughout history, ethical frameworks, and argument analysis. You'll also take Introduction to Politics and International Relations and Political Thinkers, examining fundamental political concepts and historical political theories. An optional Philosophy of Science 1 course investigates philosophical questions surrounding scientific practice. Year 2- Your philosophical studies continue with Mind, Matter and Language and Knowledge and Reality. You'll also explore International Cooperation in Europe and Beyond and Comparative Politics in a Globalized World. Additional interdisciplinary courses related to Philosophy and Politics are available. Year 3- Specialization begins as you select six courses from our specialized offerings. Philosophy options cover major subject areas, while Politics courses may include: Global Justice and Citizenship, Approaches to Politics and International Relations, Foreign Policy, Human Rights, and Statistical Design. Year 4- You'll choose four to six additional courses from an extensive selection and complete either an independent dissertation on a philosophical or political topic or a coursework dissertation consisting of two extended philosophy essays.
