The University of Edinburgh boasts a rich tradition in both Linguistics and English Language studies, with faculty members renowned for their research excellence in these fields.
Linguistics explores the mechanics of language, analyzing how sounds, vocabulary, syntax, and discourse interact to convey and construct meaning.
Your studies will include two semester-long foundational courses in theoretical linguistics, covering language acquisition, sociolinguistic variations (particularly in English), and communication methodologies. Joint honors students will additionally complete coursework in their secondary discipline. Linguistics alumni pursue diverse careers including media, diplomacy, localization, brand strategy, and sociological studies. Many recent graduates have secured positions in speech technology development or received scholarships for postgraduate studies. This degree also provides strong preparation for vocations in speech pathology, adult education, or TESOL instruction.

SQA Highers: AAAB-ABBB by end of S5 or AAAA-AABB/ABBBB by end of S6. BBB must be achieved in one year of S4-S6.
A Levels: ABB.
IB: 36 points with 665 at HL - 34 points with 655 at HL.
