The Classics program delves into the languages and writings of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. Since medieval times, German literary traditions have been deeply shaped by engaging with these classical texts.
This combined degree program spans four years, including an international year, equipping you with professional German language competencies across key areas:

comprehension and interpretation
composition and translation
verbal communication and presentation
Beginners enroll in our German 1A course, while those with prior language experience typically join German 1B.

Beyond language acquisition, you'll examine German literature, cinema, and drama within their historical and political contexts, spanning from the 1700s to modern day.

You'll have opportunities to explore notable works showcasing classical influences, including masterpieces by renowned German authors like Goethe and Schiller.

Germany's prestigious classical education tradition offers exceptional options for your third-year study abroad experience.

By graduation, you'll have refined your linguistic and analytical abilities to the level required for completing a substantial dissertation or research paper.
