The MA Classics program immerses you in the languages and literary works of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. Ancient Greek served as the foundational language for expressing many core Western societal concepts, while Latin dominated as the tongue of history's most enduring empire and persisted as Europe's primary scholarly language for over a millennium. This curriculum blends meticulous language analysis with explorations of Greco-Roman cultures across diverse spheres - political, religious, and philosophical. Students gain comprehensive proficiency in both classical languages while engaging directly with original texts spanning from early Greek periods through Late Antiquity to Byzantine and Medieval eras.
