This program offers intensive professional development that leads to certification with the Health and Caring Professions Council (HCPC) as an Educational Psychologist (a legally protected designation). Throughout the training, participants will engage in university instruction, module evaluations, research projects culminating in a doctoral dissertation, and practical placements within Local Authorities and other educational psychology work environments.
The program prepares graduates for careers as educational psychologists in various settings including Local Authority children's services, educational psychology teams, mental health services for youth (CAMHS), nonprofit organizations, or private practice. Our mission is rooted in advancing equity for at-risk youth, families, and children with special educational needs while championing their inclusion in society.
The curriculum combines on-campus instruction, independent study, research, and supervised fieldwork in Educational Psychology Services (EPS) and related workplaces.
During the initial year, students primarily attend campus-based sessions in the first two terms, completing professional practice modules covering areas like Consultation, Values, and Ethics. Concurrent placement experiences focus on developing skills with children and adolescents.
Effective practitioners must understand how to foster resilience and self-assurance in young people to support their academic, personal, and social development. This requires direct work with children alongside guidance for parents, educators, and caregivers.
With a nationwide shortage of educational psychologists, our graduates enjoy excellent employment prospects.
