The Master of Arts in Professional Landscape Architecture is designed for individuals with either an undergraduate degree in landscape architecture or a Landscape Institute-accredited 'conversion' qualification paired with a degree in another field.
At UEL, we examine pressing contemporary challenges—including migration, inequality, climate change, urban expansion, and food security—through design studios, real-world projects, and theoretical inquiry. With enthusiasm and dedication, we analyze how landscapes, nature, and places are shaped both socially and physically. Our goal is to foster critical thinking and personal insights about the landscape, encouraging students to develop their own thoughtful perspectives. Our curriculum equips students with current professional skills while helping them carve out future career paths within this diverse field.
The program consists of six modules: two focused on theory and professional practice, two on design, and concludes with an independent double-module thesis project.
Students can choose from both prescribed subjects and elective options, collaborating with the Sustainability Research Institute or other departments specializing in urban design, heritage conservation, environmental design, and social justice. The design studio follows a cycle of research, experimentation, and innovation, working across various scales—from regional character assessments to intricate design details.
At UEL, your aspirations matter. We offer a dynamic, creative environment where you can expand your expertise, refine your skills, and shape your professional journey.
This MA program operates alongside other landscape and built environment courses, providing flexibility, collaborative project opportunities, engaged faculty, and a multicultural student community.

As environmental concerns and community well-being gain prominence, landscape architects are increasingly sought after worldwide, with strong industry employment rates.
Our alumni excel in the field, earning accolades and awards, with all MA graduates securing positions in professional practice, advanced research, or policy roles. The School maintains connections with leading practices, offering students hands-on experience through collaborative projects with professionals across disciplines.
