Combining law and criminology is an excellent choice for students interested in legal studies while exploring the roots and impacts of criminal behavior. This program includes two criminology modules annually alongside comprehensive law studies, fulfilling all requirements set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board for an LLB degree.
The curriculum explores legal creation and implementation, examining how laws interact with societal, political, and cultural frameworks. The criminology component provides foundational knowledge about the justice system, covering law enforcement, judicial processes, and correctional facilities. While core law subjects are mandatory, third-year students can select specialized modules to align with their interests.
This dual-degree program offers thorough legal education with criminal justice applications. Initial years establish core competencies through modules like Legal Systems and Methods, plus Constitutional and Administrative Law.
Diverse teaching approaches keep learning engaging, incorporating lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, and personalized guidance supplemented by digital resources. Practical legal training includes moot courts and simulated trials in dedicated chambers.
Graduates develop sought-after skills applicable across multiple professions.
Many alumni become solicitors after completing the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and securing law firm training contracts.
Others pursue barrister careers through the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC), progressing to pupillage and potentially establishing practices as self-employed or employed barristers.
