This cutting-edge program merges a robust interdisciplinary base with specialized economic perspectives on international development studies. Core modules examine pressing modern challenges through an economic viewpoint - encompassing poverty, marginalization, deprivation, international aid, environmental concerns, trade, and globalization - with particular emphasis on the origins of economic and social disparities and potential policy solutions. Students will acquire hands-on expertise in economic methodologies and statistical analysis, mastering fundamental data evaluation approaches and specialized software to methodically address key macroeconomic and microeconomic inquiries.
Beyond the economic emphasis, participants will establish comprehensive knowledge of development's central themes, institutions, and methodologies, integrating economic insights with perspectives from anthropology, environmental science, geography, media studies, and political science. The curriculum offers opportunities to deepen understanding of specific global regions through specialized modules focusing on sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, or Latin America, while allowing exploration of diverse developmental viewpoints and emerging areas of interest.
