The Centre for Archive and Information Studies (CAIS) enables doctoral research opportunities (including part-time distance learning) in archival science, records management, memory studies, identity research, genealogy, regional history, and associated fields. CAIS fosters an encouraging and intellectually vibrant setting for advanced research, inviting applications from scholars passionate about these disciplines.
As the premier global institution for online professional education in recordkeeping, genealogy, regional studies, and related fields, CAIS has trained over 1,000 professionals since 2004, maintaining unparalleled program quality and diversity. All CAIS courses hold accreditation from both the UK Archives and Records Association and RIM Professionals Australasia, with extensive experience in supporting remote doctoral candidates.
CAIS faculty actively engage with numerous professional and scholarly organizations worldwide. Our teaching fellows pursue diverse research agendas, while the Center has established an international, cross-disciplinary research community examining recordkeeping's role in shaping collective memory, cultural identity, and community heritage. This initiative stems from five landmark Memory and Identity conferences originally supported by the Royal Society of Edinburgh's Arts and Humanities Research Awards.
