The Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science seeks to transform the forensic science landscape through positive innovation. Our mission spans wide-ranging objectives, working to renew, refine, and reinforce the reliability and trustworthiness of scientific evidence in legal proceedings.
While forensic science applies scientific principles to courtroom contexts, increasing concerns have emerged about insufficient scientific rigor supporting certain forensic methods. LRCFS focuses on identifying and correcting these scientific gaps while pioneering novel approaches to tackle emerging challenges in forensic science and criminal justice.
We've assembled a diverse team of researchers from various disciplines to reimagine solutions for current issues surrounding forensic evidence in judicial systems.
Our active research initiatives encompass:
Evidence transfer and persistence studies
Advancements in DNA analysis techniques
Forensic science education and professional development
Improved detection methods for illegal substances, explosives, and biological materials
Virtual Reality applications for forensic collaboration and communication
Investigating environmental material prevalence and distribution patterns.
