Philosophy examines human existence through analytical reasoning and debate. If you often ponder life's profound mysteries and inquiries, philosophy might be your calling.
We focus on continental (European) philosophy, guiding students through seminal works from the European intellectual tradition, featuring influential thinkers from the past century.
Our approach demonstrates philosophy's relevance to modern challenges by:
analyzing films and artistic works
examining groundbreaking scientific and technological advances
deliberating contentious moral dilemmas
demonstrating how centuries-old texts remain pertinent to current political landscapes
During Levels 1 and 2, you'll establish foundations in both ancient and contemporary philosophy while learning core concepts about ethics, epistemology (the study of knowledge) and metaphysics (the nature of existence).
At Levels 3 and 4, you'll specialize by selecting from diverse philosophy courses taught by faculty conducting cross-disciplinary research.
Your studies will explore existentialism's connections to modern culture, technology, and cinema, along with aesthetic theory and art philosophy. We'll encourage you to draw connections between philosophy and other academic disciplines.
Additionally, you'll complete one French course each semester at every level, available for beginners or as intensive study if you have prior Higher/A-Level language experience.
