In your initial two years, you'll establish a strong foundation in essential concepts across both disciplines, starting with the level 1 Global Challenges module (Politics) and progressing to Dynamic Human Worlds: Society, Culture, Economy (Geography), followed by International Relations (Politics) at level 2. Additionally, you can select complementary subjects alongside your core studies, ranging from History and Psychology to language courses or various other options.
During years three and four, you'll typically pursue an equal balance of advanced modules in either Politics (or International Relations) and Geography. Each instructor specializes in teaching areas where they have demonstrated research expertise.
Within Politics and International Relations (P&IR), current elective modules explore topics such as Russian, Irish, and Middle Eastern politics, nationalism studies, political theory, human rights, and humanitarian action. Other available modules examine subjects like drug policy, gender studies, environmental sustainability, and surveillance systems. Third-year students must select a Geography module from a designated list, allowing them to focus on either human or physical geography while enhancing their research capabilities.
