The Woodland Ecology and Conservation program equips you to become an innovative graduate, addressing critical 21st-century environmental demands. This degree delivers the ecological foundations necessary for contemporary sustainable forestry practices. Students gain expertise in managing trees, woodlands, and forests to preserve biodiversity while maximizing societal benefits - from timber resources and recreational spaces to vital ecosystem services like carbon sequestration, nutrient cycling, and flood mitigation. Graduates emerge prepared to tackle our era's dual crises: climate disruption and species decline.
As a Woodland Ecology and Conservation student at the University of Cumbria, you'll master sustainable forestry techniques through our National School of Forestry. The curriculum blends theoretical learning with practical application across diverse environments, from ancient woodlands to commercial plantations, complemented by field studies in various habitats. A distinctive feature includes the option for a professional placement year, allowing you to refine skills and apply classroom knowledge in practical settings.
