UCL Dutch boasts one of the most extensive Dutch library collections outside the Low Countries. The program features a yearly Writer-in-Residence initiative and frequent research seminars led by visiting scholars from the Netherlands and Flanders, maintaining strong ties with Dutch-speaking regions. Students can collaborate with other departments in the School of European Languages, Culture and Society (SELCS) and throughout UCL. This program caters to graduates passionate about Dutch language and sociolinguistics, comparative literature, Dutch literary studies, political and cultural history of the Low Countries, and translation studies. It welcomes both recent Master's graduates and working professionals at any career stage. The MPhil/PhD is designed for researchers eager to pursue interdisciplinary studies, whether they come from postgraduate academic backgrounds or seek to deepen their expertise in a specialized field.

Qualification Requirements

A minimum of an upper second-class UK Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard and usually Master's degree with Merit in a relevant field. In the first instance, candidates should establish a dialogue with a potential supervisor before making a formal application. Admission is normally dependent on the submission of a detailed research project proposal. The English language level for this programme is: Level 4

UCL Pre-Master's and Pre-sessional English courses are for international students who are aiming to study for a postgraduate degree at UCL. The courses will develop your academic English and academic skills required to succeed at postgraduate level. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Version - Overall score of 7.5 and a minimum of 7.0 in each component. Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Overall score of 109 with 27/30 in reading and writing and 23/30 in speaking and listening.
