This program enables students to conduct innovative research involving computational tools in design, spanning various scales, historical periods, and methodological perspectives. The Architecture & Digital Theory MPhil/PhD program supports students in developing groundbreaking research focused on computational applications in design, without constraints of scale, era, or methodology. Participants create a doctoral thesis featuring original written work, which may include supplementary materials appropriate to their research topic. Candidates must demonstrate intellectual independence to advance knowledge and broaden academic dialogue in their specialization. They should critically engage with evolving disciplinary boundaries and the dynamic architectural profession, while recognizing how societal and institutional factors shape these changes. The research proposal plays a vital role in the application process, as it showcases your capacity to define and present an autonomous research direction.

A minimum of an upper second-class UK Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard, in a relevant subject, is essential. Exceptionally: where applicants have other suitable research or professional experience, they may be admitted without a Master's degree, or where applicants have a lower second-class UK Honours Bachelor's degree (2:2) (or equivalent) they must possess a relevant Master's degree to be admitted. We expect any successful application to include a sufficiently strong and convincing proposal, and those holding a Master's degree are typically well prepared to provide one. Relevant work experience is highly desirable. The English language level for this programme is: Level 2
