We invite candidates to apply for our PhD program focusing on diverse facets of the built environment, particularly emphasizing building performance, construction management, and architectural engineering. Our department boasts extensive experience in cross-disciplinary research initiatives, industry collaborations, and a robust global network.

Our research strengths include building science, performance simulation, architectural design processes, sustainable construction, quality assurance in buildings, value optimization, fault diagnosis in structures, on-site assessments, traditional earth construction, heritage building evaluations, user behavior studies, and thermal imaging technologies.

This intensive PhD program is designed for individuals seeking to establish themselves as researchers while advancing knowledge in building-related disciplines. While applicants typically propose their own research focus, we provide comprehensive support in refining research proposals.

Each candidate benefits from personalized supervision by a dedicated team of specialists led by a Director of Studies.

For those without a master's qualification, we offer alternative entry pathways through our research-focused master's programs (with potential PhD progression for outstanding candidates) or MPhil options. Additional information about our research degree structure is available.

The program incorporates professional development components alongside core research activities. Candidates will present their work through various academic channels including seminars, conferences, and scholarly publications. Research progresses through continuous dialogue with supervisors, with opportunities for collaborative publishing to foster early engagement with the global research community. Final assessment involves submission of a substantial thesis (around 80,000 words) followed by an oral defense.

Full-time duration: 3-4 years.
