Pursuing a doctorate at UCL's Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Public Policy (STEaPP) enables students to build expertise where scientific research meets policymaking. The DPA program emphasizes policy-focused, interdisciplinary approaches that provide graduates with distinct professional advantages. A significant feature includes hands-on experience through policy sector placements. Doctoral candidates at STEaPP transform into globally recognized interdisciplinary scholars working at the crossroads of scientific knowledge and public policy. Students explore how scientific and technical insights influence governance and contribute to solving critical worldwide issues.
UCL STEaPP's research emphasizes collaborative creation, uniting academics, policymakers, NGOs, and business leaders to confront urgent societal problems and develop innovative solutions. Doctoral projects integrate directly with our specialized research teams. The department combines methodological strengths from natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, and policy studies. UCL Pre-Master's and Pre-sessional English courses are for international students who are aiming to study for a postgraduate degree at UCL. The courses will develop your academic English and academic skills required to succeed at postgraduate level. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Version - Overall score of 7.5 and a minimum of 7.0 in each component.
