This program offers comprehensive, rigorous training in statistical science theory and application. Statistical skills are highly sought after across diverse industries, applicable to challenges in science, medicine, technology, finance, and economics. Your first year will cover foundational mathematics, statistics, and computing, laying the groundwork for deeper statistical specialization in subsequent years.

Throughout the degree, you'll balance theoretical learning with hands-on skill development, including computing and specialized software applications.

The final year allows significant customization, letting you focus on either mathematical or applied aspects. Approximately 25% of your work will involve an in-depth research project supervised by a faculty member from the Department of Statistical Science. Past projects have examined topics like southern African rainfall patterns, clinical trial data analysis, and financial market volatility studies.
