This program offers a comprehensive grounding in economic principles and analytical techniques while applying them to practical challenges through data-driven economic evaluation. You'll learn from leading scholars who blend cutting-edge research with creative teaching approaches, equipping you to independently investigate and address issues through an economic perspective. The department's core philosophy emphasizes developing students' ability to conduct economic analysis themselves, rather than simply studying how others approach economics. In addition to formal coursework, you can participate in our voluntary Skills Lab series (offered each year without academic credit) to enhance independent study techniques and professional competencies for economists.

Your instructors include renowned economists tackling pressing global concerns like environmental sustainability, wealth disparity, and migration economics. Many faculty members lead prominent research institutes, hold positions as Research Fellows at the esteemed Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), and consult for governmental organizations such as the Office of Budget Responsibility, the Bank of England, and the World Bank.
