Our Animal Behaviour degree stands out for its strong foundation in biological sciences, employing a meticulous scientific methodology to examine animal behavior. Alongside studying well-known species, we cover a broad spectrum of animals, with special attention to often-overlooked groups like amphibians and invertebrates. These species exhibit fascinating behaviors and play vital roles in both temperate and tropical ecosystems. While the focus is primarily on wildlife, you can also explore behavior in controlled settings, such as optimizing care for endangered zoo animals, ensuring proper pet welfare, and managing livestock. Our faculty contributes cutting-edge knowledge from their specialized research areas.
The Biology program provides diverse subjects and exceptional opportunities through collaborations with institutions like Chester Zoo and other top-tier organizations, industries, and nonprofits. Beyond classroom instruction, we offer hands-on experiences through internships and field studies, as well as engaging lab-based research projects. Our wide-ranging research initiatives—from combating wildlife trafficking with DNA analysis to studying disease mechanisms, cancer biology, microbiology, and conservation—ensure dynamic, up-to-date teaching. We actively support students in joining professional bodies like the Royal Society of Biology and attending curated events to expand their expertise.
