The Doctor of Philosophy in Western Architectural History is an intensive research program culminating in a thesis and oral defense. This degree focuses on developing and presenting significant, independent scholarly work, typically completed within three years for full-time students or six years for part-time students. Exceptional candidates may submit early if they demonstrate accelerated progress.
The program offers extensive flexibility in research topics within Western architectural history. Current doctoral projects span diverse areas, from examining Late Antique Athens to analyzing European impacts on Algiers' urban core. With adequate supporting evidence, nearly any facet of Western architectural history can serve as a viable research focus. Topic refinement is an evolving process, often undergoing adjustments during the initial year of study.
