Buckingham boasts an expanding and vibrant community of doctoral candidates pursuing Economics PhDs.
Since the university's establishment in the 1970s, the Economics Department has played a central role. We're a compact, globally diverse department with expertise spanning financial economics, banking, energy economics, economic history, and behavioral economics.
Our faculty members frequently publish in prestigious journals including Journal of Policy Modelling, International Journal of Industrial Organisation, Research Policy, and others. Their work has also appeared in prominent media outlets like the Wall Street Journal, S&P Global Market Intelligence, and City AM.
Our PhD program provides a nurturing environment for original research while developing students' theoretical and technical capabilities. Candidates join research networks within the Vinson Centre, participating in workshops and connecting with experts in international trade, monetary economics, and entrepreneurial economics. Students regularly present their work at departmental seminars, with funding available for UK and international conference presentations.
