The Applied Computing Department (ACD) faculty members are actively involved in research and scholarly publications. Despite its relatively small size, ACD has effectively secured research grants from diverse UK and EU sources, including industry partners, research councils, the HEA, and EU framework initiatives like FP6. Additionally, ACD maintains productive collaborations with numerous European research organizations.
During the 2012-2013 academic year, the department celebrated the graduation of two PhD candidates and six MSc students (including one in Mathematics), with four earning Distinction honors. Both doctoral candidates qualified for March graduation, and we anticipate three to four more completing their PhD studies for the next ceremony. Our research student body expanded last October with a new Computing PhD candidate, followed by three additional doctoral students. In recent years, ACD's research student population has consistently grown, now comprising 29 PhD and two Master's candidates.
The past year saw the publication of more than 20 peer-reviewed conference and journal papers, with two receiving best paper recognition.
Research programs offer flexible enrollment options, available either full-time or part-time, with four annual intake periods: January, April, July, and September.
