This interdisciplinary program in London allows students to explore the Tudor dynasty's history and global significance through a 25,000-word dissertation.
Participants will analyze the connections between political, architectural, artistic, and social history. Following an introductory session by the Course Director, ten seminars will cover topics including the Tudor dynasty's origins during the Wars of the Roses, early Tudor governance (and its constraints), and Henry VIII's reign as a Renaissance monarch. A key focus will be female monarchy and its impact on Tudor rule. The curriculum also investigates Tudor England's material culture across social classes, studying propaganda, print media, evolving architectural patronage, artistic developments, and the growth of Renaissance literature and drama. Pre-lecture reading materials will be provided to facilitate preparation and dialogue with specialist presenters.
