Established in 1996 as a Taught MA program, this innovative Master's in Biography remains exclusive to Buckingham University. The program consistently receives outstanding evaluations from external reviewers. Students can choose between full-time (one year) or part-time (two year) study options, with the part-time track often preferred to allow dedicated time for writing about a chosen biographical subject during the second year.
Over the last quarter century, research topics have spanned diverse figures from Queen Victoria to Bengali filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak, and from Bernard Levin to gardening writer Jane Loudon. Some students have explored their own notable relatives or personally known individuals. Our faculty brings expertise across historical eras from Early Modern times to contemporary periods, with special focus on examining subjects within their historical, social, and political frameworks. We welcome those interested in Life Writing or Literary Biography to learn from our interdisciplinary faculty, including Dr. Pete Orford (author of a Charles Dickens biography) and Dr. Peter Sloane (specializing in refugee memoirs and life writing).
