During this pivotal era, the MRes in Sustainable Futures offers a compelling chance to focus on research addressing one of society's most pressing concerns: sustaining and improving human welfare amid growing populations, finite resources, and environmental vulnerability.
Centered in social sciences, this discipline combines practical applications with forward-looking policy considerations. Students will hone advanced research capabilities while gaining expertise in sustainability's economic, legal, or political dimensions.
With its focus on hands-on research training, the program features ESRC-approved methodologies that foster interdisciplinary thinking about complex ecological challenges. Participants will master the skills needed to design, execute, and compose an advanced dissertation.
Beyond providing comprehensive academic research foundations, the MRes effectively prepares graduates for roles in environmental agencies, consultancies, NGOs, or other change-driven organizations. Some alumni pursue legal careers equipped with deeper insights into environmental law and sustainability frameworks.
This program forms one of five interdisciplinary pathways in the South West Doctoral Training Partnership, delivered by distinguished researchers from the Universities of Bristol, Bath, West of England, and Exeter.
