Our department's research spans the Hispanic and Lusophone regions, covering diverse periods from early modernity to today, with a geographic scope that includes the Americas, Africa, and Europe.
Much of our work focuses on exploring connections:
between different locations,
across historical periods,
and among academic fields.
Global culture and history form the foundation of our research. We investigate how Spanish and Portuguese-speaking nations influenced global development throughout Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. Our work examines their global positioning and develops innovative approaches to understanding these relationships, incorporating digital humanities, sports studies, translation studies, environmental humanities, and indigenous history.
We encourage prospective students interested in customized research at either the master's (MPhil) or doctoral (PhD) level to apply. All postgraduate students engage in a dynamic schedule of research activities and play vital roles in the department's research initiatives, as well as those of the School of Modern Languages and the broader faculty.
