For those with a creative flair and passion for design who want to enhance our built environment, civil engineering offers the perfect path. This program prepares you to address worldwide environmental challenges while designing groundbreaking structures like bridges, buildings, and essential infrastructure systems that transform communities (including water treatment facilities, transportation networks, and renewable energy projects).
At Bristol, you'll utilize cutting-edge laboratory resources, featuring Europe's most sophisticated earthquake simulation platform.
The initial and final two years mirror our MEng Civil Engineering curriculum. Your third year will involve an industry placement, where you'll apply knowledge gained during your first two academic years.
While direct enrollment isn't available, exceptional students from our other civil engineering programs may transfer after achieving strong academic results and succeeding in a placement interview. Availability is limited and extremely competitive.
The foundational years establish core engineering principles through mathematics, structural analysis, geotechnics, hydraulics, computing, and surveying, alongside elective modules. Advanced years offer more specialization options while honing professional competencies, culminating in a significant research project.
Design forms the program's cornerstone, evidenced by hands-on projects. First-year challenges might involve creating model bridge solutions, while later years tackle steel frameworks, concrete reinforcement, foundation design, and water distribution networks.
Your fifth year features an immersive group design project, synthesizing your expertise to solve real-world problems identified through industry partnerships. These projects span diverse areas like urban mobility, intelligent city planning, high-rise construction, and eco-friendly residential development.
We develop tomorrow's civil engineering leaders, with our graduates being highly recruited by top-tier employers across engineering consultancies, utilities, defense, transit systems, and energy providers.
