The first two years offer comprehensive training in biomedical science, covering viruses and associated illnesses.
Your studies will explore the immune system's role in fighting infections, along with autoimmune disorders where the immune system mistakenly targets the body's own cells.
During your final year, you'll examine major human viral diseases, analyzing their biological characteristics, molecular structures, immune responses, disease mechanisms, and spread patterns. This includes viruses like HIV, hepatitis B/C, HPV, flu, measles, and coronaviruses.
The curriculum addresses current challenges in virology and immunology, featuring newly identified threats such as SARS-CoV-2, Marburg, and Ebola viruses.
Vaccine development challenges form another key component. Typically, you'll undertake a research project focusing on either virology or immunology.
Students can opt for the four-year BSc Virology and Immunology with Study in Industry program by transferring after securing a second-year placement.
