The first two years offer comprehensive training in biomedical sciences, including in-depth knowledge about viruses and associated illnesses.
Your studies will cover the immune system's role in fighting infections, along with autoimmune disorders that arise when the immune system mistakenly targets the body's own cells.
During your final year, you'll examine major human viral diseases, exploring their biological characteristics, molecular mechanisms, immune responses, disease progression, and spread. This includes viruses like HIV, hepatitis B and C, papillomavirus, flu, measles, and coronaviruses.
The curriculum addresses current challenges in virology and immunology, featuring newly identified threats such as SARS-CoV-2, Marburg, and Ebola viruses.
You'll also study vaccine development challenges and typically complete a research project focused on either virology or immunology.
