This program merges comprehensive historical understanding and refined research abilities from a history degree with deep cultural insight and advanced language proficiency gained through studying Italian language, arts, and traditions, which have profoundly influenced Western culture. As one of the most widely learned languages globally, Italian is spoken across continents by the Italian diaspora.
You'll become part of two academic departments with scholars specializing in diverse areas, fostering the development of interdisciplinary expertise while examining connections between both fields. Both departments emphasize the integration of research and teaching, creating a dynamic educational atmosphere where faculty incorporate cutting-edge findings into their curriculum.
Your studies will include a systematic Italian language program alongside explorations of Italy's vibrant heritage, with options to select courses in literature, cinema, history, philosophy, political science, and visual arts. Your third year abroad offers opportunities to examine historical themes within Italy's unique cultural landscape, either through university studies or professional placements. University-based students will focus on history-oriented courses, while those undertaking work experience will be guided toward roles in cultural heritage institutions.
In your final year, you'll independently investigate the connections between history and Italian through a research dissertation, incorporating Italian-language sources. This dual expertise in history, language, and culture will position you as a bridge for cross-cultural dialogue across international borders.
Instruction occurs through various formats including lectures, small-group tutorials, seminars, practical workshops, and individual thesis guidance. Evaluation methods range from oral presentations and written papers to critical analyses, examinations, group projects, discussions, digital media productions, and research papers.
