For over four decades, the University of Brighton has prioritized geological and earth science research.
Our faculty and doctoral candidates lead pioneering studies ranging from analyzing the Phanerozoic Great Oxidation Event's origins to exploring carbonate mineralogy for carbon capture technologies.
Much of our research delivers practical solutions. Findings from our Applied Geosciences Research Group, for instance, help remediate metal-polluted sites, locate vital mineral deposits like Rare Earth Elements, and trace the origins of Stonehenge's construction materials.
Graduates from our Geology and Earth Science PhD program pursue diverse careers, securing academic positions as lecturers and researchers at Brighton and other institutions, as well as roles in sectors like mineral extraction. Numerous alumni now hold leadership positions in environmental consulting and related fields.
