The Master by Research (MRes) is a one-year postgraduate program focused on research, offered jointly by the Institute of Cancer Therapeutics and the Faculty of Life Sciences. This program prepares students for careers as professional scientists or for progression into PhD studies. With a strong emphasis on hands-on laboratory research, participants develop specialized skills through practical experience. A key component is a six-month research project, allowing students to apply their learning to innovative, impactful studies. The program follows a research-engaged teaching model, where both classrooms and laboratories serve as spaces for generating and implementing new knowledge. Its curriculum employs a 'spiral learning' approach, systematically building and reinforcing core competencies throughout the course. Assessment methods align with both this spiral structure and the research-focused pedagogy, while also developing the professional abilities required for success in scientific and academic careers.
