This program offers insights into evolving energy systems and the key technologies shaping the future. A challenge-focused curriculum complements the Birmingham Energy Institute's world-renowned innovations, covering everything from foundational research to practical industrial implementations.

Global energy systems are undergoing transformation, driven by factors such as:

Environmental concerns, particularly climate change and air pollution,
rising demand and the need for universal access to dependable energy,
rapid urbanization straining infrastructure.
To address these challenges, emerging technologies are being created while energy systems themselves evolve. The world requires professionals who can grasp not just individual technologies but also their operational environments. This multidisciplinary program meets that global demand.

The curriculum employs a systems perspective on energy production, distribution, and consumption across all forms. Instruction comes from the School of Chemical Engineering alongside the School of Physics and Astronomy and the School of Government and Society, delivered by researchers with academic, industrial, and policy expertise.
