The Policy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) program provides students with a platform to analyze and reflect on current global challenges. This encompasses examining financial systems and wealth distribution, exploring various governmental structures, or redefining 21st-century societal concepts like citizenship.
Differing from conventional single-subject degrees, the PPE curriculum exposes students to diverse theories, methodologies, and perspectives across social policy, political science, and economics. The program maintains balanced emphasis on all three fields throughout while offering flexibility to focus on individual academic preferences.
First-year students establish foundational knowledge through introductory courses in all three disciplines. The second-year cornerstone module, 'Global Issues, Global Responses,' fosters interdisciplinary examination of worldwide challenges and corresponding solutions across different governance levels. Students can simultaneously begin specializing based on emerging interests. The third year involves international study at partner institutions across Europe or globally, with options for English-taught programs. Following this overseas experience, students return to Birmingham for their final year, culminating in a dissertation project.
