Our Childhood, Youth and Family Studies: Youth Work Pathway MA program equips you with comprehensive expertise in youth services, offering hands-on field experience. A key component is our Effective and Ethical Practice unit, where you'll develop skills to connect with children, youth, and families across various sectors including social care, education, and criminal justice. The curriculum covers relationship-building theories, intervention methods, and practical communication strategies, while addressing challenges in professional engagement with reluctant individuals. You'll learn conflict resolution techniques and anti-oppressive approaches to ethical practice. The program explores contemporary childhood and family theories through our Dimensions of Childhood unit, applying them to real-world situations. You'll gain vital skills in child protection, risk management, and professional development to advocate effectively for young people and families. Elective options allow specialization in areas like youth violence analysis through our Young People and Group Offending unit, examining sociological factors behind violent behavior and evidence-based interventions. Additional electives include Coaching and Mentoring Practice for professional development, Contextual Safeguarding for addressing extra-familial risks, and Critical Relationship Education for delivering inclusive sex education. Our Social Enterprise unit teaches entrepreneurial approaches to social change.
