Midwifery encompasses a wide range of responsibilities beyond assisting with childbirth. This hands-on program dedicates half its curriculum to clinical placements, teaching students to provide comprehensive care for expectant individuals throughout pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum recovery - including supervising a minimum of 40 births before qualifying as a professional midwife.
Upon qualification, midwives serve as primary caregivers for pregnant individuals, offering continuous support during the entire maternity journey. The role demands sensitivity to diverse needs - addressing physical health, emotional wellbeing, cultural considerations, and social circumstances while also supporting the wider family unit.
This intensive 39-week annual program combines simulated learning scenarios with practical experience. Students divide their time equally between academic study and clinical placements under the guidance of qualified midwives, seamlessly integrating theoretical knowledge with developing clinical competencies.
Graduates earn both an Honours degree and professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, qualifying them to practice as certified midwives.
