The MA Internet Equalities program examines how power dynamics are structured, ingrained, and maintained through internet technologies, while investigating ways to reshape or resist these through critical, creative, and activist approaches. This program analyzes how systems of oppression are encoded within digital infrastructures, providing students with both analytical frameworks and practical skills to implement equity-focused approaches in tech research and development. You'll learn to actively promote fairness in digital spaces and society at large, with internet equalities defined as socio-technical systems that actively counter discrimination based on race, class, gender, gender identity, sexuality, age, religion, or ability. The curriculum empowers students to address societal challenges directly, enhance inclusivity across all dimensions, and mitigate harmful consequences stemming from unethical technological applications.
