The DPLP is an experiential, practice-oriented program designed to equip qualified law graduates for professional legal work in Scotland. Leveraging our robust connections within the legal field, we view the Diploma as the essential transition from academic study to real-world practice. Expect to engage in a collaborative learning atmosphere while forming valuable professional relationships.
The DPLP fulfills the Professional Education and Training Stage 1 (PEAT 1) criteria, a mandatory step for aspiring solicitors in Scotland. This full-year program spans two semesters, with classes scheduled weekdays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Students must successfully complete four foundational courses—Conveyancing, Private Client, Litigation, Business Environment and Ethics—along with reflective journal assignments in the first semester before advancing to elective options. The September intake begins with an immersive orientation featuring practical skill development in negotiation, client interviews, and teamwork. This introduction to legal practice includes a visit to Aberdeen Sheriff Court, where participants hear from judicial officers and legal practitioners while observing live court sessions.
During the second semester, students select four specialized courses from an extensive catalog (see course details), allowing customization based on individual career goals. Comprehensive elective course information becomes available in November before registration.
