The Institute of Applied Health Sciences (IAHS) brings together around 70 academic professionals from various disciplines, focusing on population-based and clinically-oriented health research. It shares facilities with NHS Grampian's clinical services at the Foresterhill health campus.
The Institute comprises 12 specialized research teams. Their methodological strengths span cohort studies, large-scale multicenter clinical trials, data analytics, health economics, healthcare systems research, disease patterns, behavioral health, medical technology evaluation, and statistical analysis.
These methodologies are applied to key clinical specialties: Musculoskeletal Disorders, Pediatric Medicine, Long-term Conditions (including Neurological, Kidney and Community Health), General Practice, Psychological Aspects of Cancer, Rural Medicine, Urological Health, and Reproductive Health. Cross-cutting research initiatives address critical areas like Oncology and International Health across these specialties.
In 2018, the University of Aberdeen received the prestigious Queen's Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, honoring four decades of groundbreaking work in health economics and healthcare systems by its Health Services Research Unit and Health Economics Research Unit.
IAHS is committed to advancing healthcare through innovative research that enhances medical understanding and improves both healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
