Boost your bachelor's degree by adding a year-long placement in industry, business, or research. Physiology explores how living organisms function. Unlike other life sciences, it focuses on applying fundamental biological principles to explain entire organ systems or complete bodily functions. This holistic approach positions Physiology at the heart of biological and medical sciences.
Research into normal physiological processes forms the foundation for understanding disease mechanisms and developing medical treatments. The field spans from molecular interactions within cells to studying how our bodies regulate cognition, nutrition, rest, and physical activity. Physiologists integrate knowledge from related disciplines including anatomy, biochemistry, pharmacology, genetics, and immunology.
Your fourth year will feature an industrial placement, allowing you to graduate after five years with an MSci (Master of Science) undergraduate degree rather than a BSc. Placement opportunities vary widely, but typically let you gain hands-on experience in industrial, business, or research settings, broadening your practical skills while complementing your academic studies and improving career prospects.
