Boost your bachelor's degree by completing a year-long placement in industry, business, or research settings. Biochemistry bridges the gap between biological sciences and medical applications. From microscopic bacteria to the complex cellular networks in humans, all essential life processes occur at the biochemical level. Grasping these mechanisms offers valuable perspectives on diverse topics, from life's evolutionary journey to creating therapies for widespread health issues like diabetes, cancer, and weight-related disorders.
Every day, Aberdeen Biochemistry alumni are engaged in testing water samples for contaminants, developing breakthrough medications, advancing nanotechnology, assessing nutritional values in food products, assisting fertility treatments in IVF centers, or supplying laboratories globally with scientific equipment.
This academic program explores numerous biochemistry topics across molecular, cellular, and systemic levels. You'll also develop specialized knowledge in specific biochemistry areas that align with the University's research strengths.
During your fourth year, you'll complete a 12-month professional placement, graduating after five years with an MSci (an undergraduate Master's qualification) rather than a BSc. Placement opportunities vary widely, but typically allow you to gain hands-on experience in industrial, corporate, or research settings, building practical skills that complement your studies and improve your career prospects.
