This program explores the core technologies and processes in upstream oil and gas operations, emphasizing safety practices, risk evaluation, and mitigation strategies.

For more than 25 years, the University of Aberdeen's School of Engineering has specialized in safety-focused education and research, becoming one of the UK's leading institutions in safety engineering studies.

Developed in collaboration with the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and industry partners, the MSc Process Safety program trains future Process Safety Engineers. Participants will engage with current industry challenges, including operational safety and risk management, while cultivating professional approaches to address these concerns.

This unique program caters specifically to students with chemical engineering backgrounds or those with petroleum/mechanical engineering experience coupled with strong chemistry knowledge.

Qualification Requirements

2:1 (upper second class) UK Honours degree, or an Honours degree from a non-UK institution which is judged by the University to be of equivalent worth in Chemical Engineering.
2:1 in Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering with evidence of strength in key aspects of Chemical Engineering.
Those with a High 2:2 Honours degree in Engineering may also be considered if they can demonstrate 2+ years of relevant experience.
Key subjects you must have covered: Mathematics and Thermodynamics.
