The MSc in International Relations and International Law provides an interdisciplinary approach to global governance studies. Thucydides (460-395BC), the renowned Greek historian, pioneered the academic study of international relations. This multifaceted field encompasses diverse disciplines including technology, economics, history, sociology, criminology, diplomacy, security studies, finance, and human rights. Historical records show the earliest known international peace treaty emerged in 3100BC between Sumerian city-states, followed by numerous agreements across the Middle East.
Modern governments face growing demands to navigate intricate international legal systems that regulate state-to-state interactions. This joint postgraduate program, offered by both the School of Social Science and School of Law, equips students with comprehensive knowledge of how International Relations and International Law intersect and influence global politics.
Leveraging faculty expertise from both departments, this cutting-edge program integrates theoretical and practical coursework in International Law and Relations, delivering distinctive interdisciplinary insights into contemporary global governance challenges.
Through rigorous coursework and a culminating Master's thesis in International Law, students will hone essential skills for critically analyzing current international legal and political matters.
