The Land Economy (Rural Surveying/Rural Property Management) program focuses on overseeing land resources, rural enterprises, and their related operations and concerns. As Scotland's sole RICS-accredited master's program of this nature, it enables graduates to advance toward the Assessment of Professional Competence and achieve full RICS professional status.
This curriculum delivers diverse expertise in areas like land administration, public policy, legal frameworks, urban planning, economic principles, and property valuation—all interconnected to address evolving challenges for landowners and land professionals. Students and graduates in rural land and business management engage not just with hands-on land stewardship but also with the financial, regulatory, planning, and policy frameworks guiding operational choices and enterprise oversight.
The program blends knowledge of conventional land practices (farming, forestry, field sports) with contemporary topics (environmental conservation, tourism ventures, public access schemes, agricultural diversification, and renewable energy projects), alongside essential business acumen for effective leadership in rural enterprises. Graduates will be exceptionally prepared to lead sustainable energy transitions in land management, particularly in wind, hydro, bioenergy, and geothermal sectors.
