The combination of Economics and Sociology provides an ideal foundation for understanding the global economy and the diverse social factors affecting wealth. You'll gain insights into societal structures and their profound impact on individuals, supported by top-tier teaching, cutting-edge research, and valuable transferable skills that make graduates highly employable across various industries.
In Economics, you'll examine business microeconomics, global macroeconomics, and economic challenges within political, social, and historical frameworks, with a focus on practical application. You'll learn in our internationally diverse Business School, home to 45 nationalities, under the guidance of experts like Professor Alex Kemp, a renowned petroleum economist and government advisor, and our health economists who shape UK public health policies.
In Sociology, you'll analyze how society shapes economic systems, exploring diverse topics from work-life balance to family structures and religious influences. Our faculty includes internationally recognized researchers specializing in social movements, global political sociology, religious studies, and conflict resolution. You'll master social research techniques including observational studies, interviews, surveys, and content analysis to better understand societal dynamics.
This dual discipline develops exceptional critical thinking and analytical skills – highly valued by employers in business, government, and nonprofit sectors. Career opportunities span management, marketing, journalism, policy-making, research, education, healthcare, social services, and human resources.
