The Post Primary PGCE is a full-time, year-long program designed to equip students for a teaching career. This course trains you to instruct Technology & Design to all secondary school students. It's based at the Coleraine campus, with specialized subject workshops held at the Education Authority's dedicated Belfast facilities. You'll develop expertise in Technology and Design areas you may be unfamiliar with, such as CAD, Electronic Systems, PCB manufacturing, Pneumatic Control Systems, Graphics, and Computer Control Systems. Though hands-on, the program integrates knowledge from other course components, always focusing on classroom application. As a future educator, you'll need to demonstrate self-motivation and actively drive your professional growth. During school placements, your primary focus will be enhancing student learning through tailored teaching approaches. Certain course components are delivered at Master's level, requiring you to engage with contemporary teaching research and Technology and Design literature. Assessment methods include e-portfolios, written assignments, classroom observations, and examinations.
