This four-year honors program offers students the chance to explore technology through the lens of market-driven design. You'll gain essential skills, technical expertise, and commercial awareness to channel creativity into innovative solutions. Ideal for those passionate about engineering, technology, and product design, this program blends design principles with engineering capabilities. You'll master the process of transforming conceptual designs into manufacturable products. With teamwork being fundamental to both engineering and design fields, the curriculum emphasizes collaborative product development. Graduates will acquire the expertise to make meaningful contributions to industrial practices. Delivered through a partnership between the School of Engineering and Belfast School of Art, the program includes a mandatory third-year placement. It holds accreditation from both the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), recognized by the Engineering Council.

We will also accept smaller BTEC/OCR qualifications (i.e. Diploma or Extended Certificate / Introductory Diploma / Subsidiary Diploma) in combination with A Levels or other acceptable level 3 qualifications.

International Baccalaureate
Overall profile is a minimum of 25 points to include 12 at Higher Level and to include minimum grade 5 in Mathematics or a Higher Level science subject. Grade 4 in English Language also required in overall profile.

Access to Higher Education (HE)
Overall profile of 63% and 63% in NICATS Mathematics module (Level 2) in Science/Technology (120 credit Access course) (NI Access Course).

Overall profile of 15 credits at Distinction and 30 credits at Merit in Science/Technology (60 credit Access Course) (GB Access Course). GCSE pass at Grade C/4 or above in Mathematics is also required.

Alternative Mathematics qualifications acceptable to the University will be considered for the Mathematics requirement.

GCSE
For full-time study, you must satisfy the General Entrance Requirements for admission to a first degree course and hold a GCSE pass at Grade C/4 or above in English Language and in addition GCSE pass at Grade C/4 or above in Mathematics (or equivalent).

Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills - Communication will be accepted as equivalent to GCSE English.

Please note that for purposes of entry to this course the Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills - Application of Number is NOT regarded as an acceptable alternative to GCSE Mathematics.

IELTS 6.0 with no band score less than 5.5., TOEFL iBT - 80 with a minimum L - 17 R - 18 S - 20 W - 17, PTE Academic - 55 (with min. of 51 in each part)
