The Level 6 Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (ProfGradCertEd): Education and Training is designed for aspiring educators seeking to work within further education institutions, alternative providers, and adult learning environments.
This program is particularly suited for degree holders who aim to teach their specialized subject across various educational settings in the training sector.
Available through both full-time and part-time study options, this course is offered at multiple colleges within the Teesside University Collaborative Partnership. Full-time study serves as a pre-service qualification for future educators, with options at Darlington College and Stockton Riverside College. Specialized tracks in adult literacy or numeracy instruction are available at these same institutions. Part-time study is offered at Darlington College, Hartlepool College of Further Education, and Stockton Riverside College, serving both currently employed educators (in-service) and those seeking teaching positions (pre-service, requiring self-arranged teaching practice).
Following recent policy updates, graduates may qualify for secondary school teaching positions, particularly for students aged 14+, upon achieving Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status. This program integrates the Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers, blending theoretical knowledge with extensive practical teaching experience.
Both study formats cover essential topics such as lesson planning, assessment strategies, learning theories, curriculum development, and professional practice. Students pursuing literacy or numeracy specializations complete additional subject-specific modules, with their final qualification reflecting their chosen focus area. All participants attend two comprehensive conferences alongside fellow trainees from across the partnership network.
