This Nursing and Midwifery Council-accredited program prepares you for Part 3 registration as a specialist community public health nurse (health visitor) while qualifying you as a community prescriber. Leadership forms a core component, emphasizing quality enhancement and how leadership abilities can drive lasting improvements in SCPHN practice. You'll evolve into an adaptable, resilient professional capable of navigating evolving healthcare landscapes. The curriculum examines child and family health needs, protection strategies, and surveillance within health visiting contexts, including prescribing from the community practitioners' formulary.
With a balanced 50% theory and 50% practice structure, this program requires a formal arrangement with a health trust, local authority, or employer to secure clinical placements. Your sponsoring organization assigns a practice assessor who guides your practical learning and evaluates your clinical competencies.
You'll develop skills in evidence evaluation to strengthen practice foundations. Clinical experiences bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world application. Collaborative learning with diverse student groups, including postgraduate peers, fosters rich exchanges of perspectives and innovative approaches.
